Today’s post is dedicated to YOU – all of you incredible women around the world. Happy International Women’s Day 2022!
We celebrate International Women’s Day annually on March 8th to commemorate the achievements of women throughout history. It’s a day to reflect on the progress women have made while also recognizing that there’s still a lot of work to be done.
The first International Women’s Day was celebrated in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, and Germany in 1911. It’s since become an important day for women’s rights and equality.

The Importance of Women Empowerment
Women have come a long way socially, economically, culturally, and politically, and we deserve to celebrate it. We have a lot to be proud of, but we also have a long way to go. We still live in a patriarchal culture, dominated by the masculine and authoritarian.
Though I never chose a traditional business career path (besides my part-time collaboration with my family’s company), I’ve seen this trend to the masculine authority via family and society. Besides the obvious unbalance between women and men in the workplace, girls and women in families are not treated equally compared to their brothers or male family members. Many underestimate the strength and power of women within the family structure. If an adolescent female family member does not have a strong female figure to look up to, she often struggles with self-esteem issues as well.
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder to girls and women around the world that they are worthy. So, how do we change this generations-long trend? Female empowerment and conscious awareness are the strongest ways to combat it.

There are many feminine qualities to recognize and celebrate, including:
- Intuition
- Compassion
- Wisdom
- Acceptance
- Forgiveness
- Collaboration
- Heart-centered
- Self-reflection
- Creativity
- Responsiveness
- Spontaneity
- Effectiveness
International Women’s Day brings these qualities to light while promoting gender equality, raising awareness about the challenges faced by women, and creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration between women.
Some Amazing Women Who Inspire Me
There are many ways to celebrate International Women’s Day, whether you choose to participate in a grassroots activism event or decide to celebrate the women around you through phone calls or dinner. Regardless of how you choose to recognize this day, a huge part of it is lifting other women up. Kindness and acceptance are at the center of this process. I love looking at things from a bird’s eye view, or what I call bird perspective. Instead of looking at situations or conflicts through your own lens, try to take a step back and look at them from above. Try empathizing and leaning into what other women are experiencing. You never know where you’ll build common ground.

I also wanted to take a moment today to share some of my favorite small business owners, mindfulness leaders and coaches, as well as some of my favorite healthy chefs and bakers! They all inspire me in their own ways, and I hope they can inspire you too.

The Way of K
I included this photo of mimosa flowers that grow close to my home as they are a symbol of solidarity for International Women’s Day in Italy. Back in 1946, three members of the Union of Italian Women (UDI) voted unanimously for this flower to represent this incredibly special day. They chose the mimosa because it’s one of the first blooms of spring, Women are also messengers of the sun, and its bright yellow color represents vitality and strength like that fiery ball in the sky.
International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of women around the world, and I hope you’re not only doing that today, but every day.
